Continuing Education & License Renewal in Washington

Washington State uses a clock hour system for certificate renewal, overseen by OSPI and the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB). SPED teachers must complete 100 clock hours every 5 years to maintain their certificate.

Clock hour requirements include:

  • 100 clock hours of continuing education from an OSPI-approved provider every 5 years

  • 15 clock hours in equity-based school practices (required since July 2023 under HB 1426)

  • 15 clock hours in STEM integration (for teachers holding STEM-related endorsements)

  • Clock hours must be completed after the date your most recent certificate was issued

NASET is an approved Washington State clock hour provider through ESD 112 (via pdEnroller) as of February 26, 2026. All NASET certifications and courses count toward your 100 clock hour OSPI renewal requirement. A $3 per clock hour processing fee applies through ESD 112. The NASET course store offers a full catalog of clock hour-eligible professional development built specifically for SPED educators.

NASET members also gain access to study resources, publications, and a professional community that makes navigating Washington’s renewal process significantly easier.
