JAASEP Update: New Issue, Special Issue Call, and Reviewer Invitation
Dear colleagues,
We wanted to share a few quick updates from the Journal of the American Academy of Special Education Professionals (JAASEP).
Volume 21, Issue 2 is now available.
The newest issue of JAASEP includes a range of practitioner-focused and research-informed articles centered on improving instruction, strengthening special educator preparation, and supporting students with disabilities across educational settings. Thank you to the authors and reviewers who helped bring this issue together. You can access the current issue on the JAASEP website.
Call for Manuscripts: Upcoming Special Issue
We are currently accepting submissions for an upcoming special issue of JAASEP. We welcome manuscripts from researchers, practitioners, and higher education faculty whose work addresses topics such as evidence-based practices in special education, teacher preparation and workforce development, inclusive education and transition programming, behavior supports and classroom practice, and policy or leadership in special education. Interested in Reviewing for JAASEP?
As the journal continues to grow, we are expanding our pool of reviewers and editorial board members. Reviewers play an important role in providing constructive feedback to authors and helping guide editorial decisions. Most reviews are completed on a rolling basis and typically involve practitioner-focused or research-informed manuscripts related to special education.
If you are interested in occasionally serving as a reviewer or being considered for the editorial board, we would love to include you in our pool. You can indicate your interest by completing this short interest form. Please feel free to forward/share this information with colleagues in the field of special education.
The form simply asks for your name, affiliation, areas of expertise, and contact information so we can match manuscripts with appropriate reviewers.

This service helps ensure that only high-quality, IRB-approved research reaches our community while allowing us to dedicate proper time and attention to presenting these opportunities in a professional manner.

The Journal of the American Academy of Special Education Professionals (JAASEP)
JAASEPÂ is a peer-reviewed online journal that shares new research, ideas, and practices to support professionals in special education.
Since 2006, JAASEP has published three issues each year, featuring articles from educators and researchers worldwide. It is indexed by ERIC and published by the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET).
With over 500 articles, JAASEP has become a trusted resource for university faculty, school leaders, therapists, evaluations, and other professionals working with learners with special needs.
JAASEP’s Co-Editors In Chief are Dr. Allie Boquet (LSU) and Dr. Chelsea T. Morris (UNM). Their tenure began in July 1, 2025 and runs through June 30, 2028.
Dr. Allie Boquet is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in the Special Education Programs at Louisiana State University, where she teaches both undergraduate and graduate coursework focused on preparing future educators to serve in inclusive general and special education settings. She has experience across K–12 and higher education, having served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, program coordinator, and university faculty.
Chelsea T. Morris, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Family and Child Studies program at the University of New Mexico. She earned her Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning with a focus on Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Miami, where her work as an early childhood special education teacher continued through research in Head Start settings and with state accountability monitoring programs. Prior to joining UNM, Dr. Morris served as faculty at the University of West Georgia, where she established the Early Learning Center as a laboratory preschool site to support research, training, and service for young children and families.
