NASET proudly celebrates the launch of its Inaugural Distinguished Special Education Programs in Higher Education and Adult Learning for 2025-2026. These institutions are shaping the next generation of educators, advocates, and leaders who will continue advancing the field of special education. From foundational teacher preparation to advanced research and inclusive learning initiatives, their work ensures that every student – regardless of ability – has access to high-quality instruction and support.
For nearly two decades, NASET has recognized excellence through our nationally respected Schools of Excellence Awards for K–12 programs. With this new initiative, we extend our commitment to honoring those in higher education who are equipping professionals to make lasting impact in classrooms, communities, and policy. Special education degree programs are critical to the success of the field: they foster innovation, ensure evidence-based practice, and prepare educators to meet the evolving needs of diverse learners.
As we celebrate this inaugural group of institutions, NASET reaffirms its mission to spotlight the educators and programs driving meaningful progress. These colleges and universities represent the heart of the special education community – where knowledge, compassion, and leadership converge to shape a more inclusive future for all.
