Job Description:

Incorporates audiovisual aids and technology to make lessons more engaging and accessible. Regularly evaluates and tracks student progress, offering constructive feedback to guide improvement. Works closely with students, caregivers, teachers and counselors to address academic and behavioral concerns, ensuring a supportive and collaborative learning environment. Actively participates in staff meetings, workshops, and professional learning to stay at the forefront of education.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of educational programming

  • Prepare learning objectives, pacing guides or consultation according to national, state, local or professional standards.

  • Deliver educational or consultative programming in formal or informal learning environments using developmentally appropriate teaching methods.

  • Adapt lesson plans, supports/plan of care or activities to meet the individual needs, acuity and/or interests of participants.

  • Assess student learning and/or functioning using validated tools and measures.

  • Facilitate interactive, engaging learning experiences and/or school support

  • Manage classroom or program logistics, such as scheduling and materials preparation.

  • Collect, organize, and report program data to program leadership.

  • Provide input on program improvement based on observations and participant feedback.

  • Communicate with program participants, students, community schools and/or caregivers regarding program logistics.

  • Participate in staff and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to improve practice.

  • Represent St. Jude in meetings with external partners (e.g., schools, professional organizations, school board meetings).

  • Build relationships with educators, schools, or community partners to promote programs, student success and achieve the goals of the department.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.

  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelors degree in Education or other relevant field.

  • Additional training in Special Education is preferred.

  • Additional training in specialized area (e.g., Special Education, STEM) as required by the program preferred.

  • Fluency in additional languages strongly encouraged.

  • Proven performance in earlier role.

Minimum Experience:

  • 1+ year of instructional experience in either a school setting or a patient-focused acute or critical care setting required.

  • Fluency in additional language strongly preferred.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

  • Valid Teaching License within the United States. Must transfer license to the state of Tennessee within 12 months of employment.

Compensation:

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $60,320 – $105,040 per year for the role of Teacher for the Visually Impaired.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher to provide individualized academic instruction, develop and implement IEPs, and lead a team of paraprofessionals. The ideal candidate will demonstrate deep expertise in special education, effective classroom management, and a commitment to fostering positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Curriculum:

  • Deliver direct and group instruction aligned with IEP goals in core academic areas, social skills, and independent living.

Behavioral Support & Management:

  • Implement student behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and behavior reduction protocols, including data collection procedures.

  • Understand and apply principles of Safety-Care and Skill-Based Therapy (SBT) (training provided).

  • Collaborate with BCBAs and related staff to proactively address emerging behavioral needs.

Team Collaboration & Supervision:

  • Supervise, support, and train paraprofessionals and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs).

  • Develop team meeting agendas and lead weekly instructional and behavioral discussions.

  • Engage in weekly and monthly meetings with BCBAs, supervisors, and parents.

  • Ensure paraprofessionals are effectively trained on individual student goals and support needs.

Family & Stakeholder Communication:

  • Maintain consistent, professional communication with families, responding to emails within two business days.

  • Conduct monthly parent meetings to review student progress.

  • Collaborate with related service providers (e.g., speech, OT, BCBA) to ensure IEP alignment.

Classroom Management & Safety:

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment.

  • Maintain compliance with FERPA and other confidentiality standards.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

  • Completion of a state-approved teacher preparation program, or enrollment in an alternative licensure program.

Licensure:

  • Valid Colorado teaching license with an appropriate Special Education endorsement.

  • Must have passed the PLACE or Praxis exam or meet Highly Qualified Teacher status through HOUSSE.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of teaching experience in special education (public or facility school).

  • Preferred: 3–5 years of experience working with students aged 0–21 in classroom and 1:1 settings.

  • Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles is a plus.

Early Intervention Special Education Teacher

General Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Director of Early Intervention, the Early Intervention Special Education Teacher provides services to children birth to age three who are identified with a developmental delay or diagnosed condition. Early Intervention teachers provide early intervention strategies and supports in the areas of assessment, instruction, and consultation to staff and families of children age birth to three in natural environments as a primary service provider. Early Intervention teachers serve as a liaison with medical and community service providers on behalf of children with disabilities and their families.

Assignment/Location:

We are recruiting for an Early Intervention Special Education Teacher to serve our Early Intervention program. This position is full time, 185 day contract. The preferred start date for this position is April 24, 2023 – May 1, 2023, but there may be some flexibility. Essential Functions:

  • Provide formal and informal evaluations assessing functional capabilities of infants and toddlers on assigned caseload.

  • Develop and implement specific goals with measurable outcomes in the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) in conjunction with the IFSP team.

  • Maintain all Early Intervention documentation including EI state forms and written documentation of all evaluations, goals, outcomes, progress notes and communication with other providers and families.

  • Ensure compliance with timelines for EI documentation.

  • Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Ensure the goals of the infant, toddler, and family are met as stated in the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).

This position will serve as a school resource for staff and parents with regards to special education services and regulations. The Reading Interventionist will work closely with the Student Support Team (SST) to assist in observing, documenting, and referring students with suspected special education impairments. The candidate should be able to monitor students; continuous progress through data collection and observation and provide information/support and training to teachers and parents around their child’s needs. The Intervention Specialist should have a good understanding of state and federal regulations and local policies regarding children with special needs. The Intervention Specialist should be flexible, self-motivated, and a team player.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a variety of research-based strategies to promote reading growth such as Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention, Wilson Reading, Orton-Gillingham Multi-Sensory education approach, etc;

  • Teach and progress monitor a caseload of about 25-35 students (approximately 8 groups of up to 4 students each) to determine strengths and needs, analyze data, provide and plan interventions with fidelity;

  • Maintain continued communication with content area teachers and ensure knowledge of grade-level standards and concepts through weekly participation in grade team meetings;

  • Model responses and provide visual anchors/agendas/materials and lead students through guided and independent practice and regularly check for understanding;

  • Serve as a resource for families, teachers, and staff to ensure the understanding of the individuals needs and diagnosis;

  • Demonstrate understanding within the field of Special Education by integrating a student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) by planning and monitoring student IEP goals, sharing student data both verbally and in writing during IEP meetings;

  • Create positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment with high joy factor so that students are excited about and invested in their academic excellence;

  • Be an active member of the School Support team, Response-to-Intervention team and assist in developing strategies to service students in need;

  • Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines that are aligned with the schools overall vision;

  • Engage parents and families in their children’s academic success through regular communication of success and challenges; communicate regularly with parents about student progress and IEPs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required;

  • 3 years of teaching experience in a special education setting with a record of high student achievement;

  • Masters Degree in Special Education from a competitive college or university;

  • Appropriate New York State certification in Special Education;

  • Wilson Reading System Level 1 Certification as well as experience with Read 180, Just Words, and System 44 (preferred);

  • A desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families and community;

  • A commitment to working with diverse populations of families and students, including those at risk of educational failure;

  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Compensation:

  • The salary range for incoming teachers with a Masters is $76,000 to $88,000. The salary range for incoming teachers with a Bachelors is $67,000 to $85,000.

  • New teacher salaries are determined based on their number of years of experience as a lead teacher, level of education (associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree), and internal equity. Teachers are eligible for annual performance-based salary increases based on our Teacher Career Pathways. Because we value staff tenure in each role, we do not currently cap salary ranges.

  • We offer a comprehensive benefits plan, covering the majority of the employee premium for medical plans and subsidizing the majority of costs for a spouse/domestic partner and children. Other benefits include dental and vision plans, disability, life insurance, generous parenting benefits, flexible spending account options, generous vacation time and paid holidays, referral bonuses, professional development, an employee assistance program (EAP) and a 403(b) retirement plan with employer matching up to 4%.
